jukel123 8,478
There's a hell of a lot more sheep and deer than mountain hares. The birds will pick up far more ticks from these sources than they will from hares. Is there any evidence that culling hares leads to lower numbers of ticks on grouse? Killing mountain hares affects the whole ecosystem and many other animals have their survival put at risk. Grouse moors are, in my opinion ecological disasters, with every potential grouse predator wiped out by over zealous keepers. These moors are barren wastelands which hold predominantly grouse and nothing else. Grouse moor owners have manipulated the law so that it is illegal to let a dog roam freely even when there's no livestock for miles. I've had grouse moor keepers threaten to shoot my dogs. I've had several arguments with cap doffing keepers with what they think are macho threats. The moors belong to me as much as the toffs. I've every right to roam on them with a dog. I might not have the legal right, but I've got the moral right. Grouse moors only serve the toffs. Save the hares, save the raptors-golden eagles in particular. Well if that's true and not just an inverted snobbery induced rant because you let your dog play hell with another man's livelihood then there's an easy thousand quid for you to collect.
